There are a lot of things that can trigger a manic-depressive episode in a sufferer of bipolar disorder, and you will do well to have these on the tips of your fingers. You never know when you might need the information; it may be you or a friend, or a loved one who is about to slip into a phase, and such knowledge may be what saves the day.

Millions of people around the world that are suffering from manic depression all have the triggers that set them off. A lot of these triggers are similar, but in several instances, they differ from one another between patients. A memory, for instance, could cause someone to slip into depression, while the same will not work for another patient.

It does not matter what you call it – manic-depression, bipolar disorder, or bipolar affective disorder – the condition is one and the same, and it is not a flattering disease. This is particularly true when you have the chance to watch a sufferer slip between phases of the malady based on exposure to different triggers. Not a pretty sight, I tell you.

Everybody experiences some form of mood swings, but that has nothing on the depression that comes upon a sufferer of bipolar disorder from time to time. It may even last as long as an entire year, wreaking untold destruction on the individual’s life. All it takes is exposure to a single trigger, and they may not be able to pull out of this one.

Often, the most obvious triggers for a manic-depressive sufferer are memories. Things from the past may suddenly crop up in their minds and lead them off enslaved to the horrible actions and emotions that follow. If you are aware of these memories, you may try to head your conversation with them away from such lines.

You are about the only person who can help your friend to deal with the bipolar disorder triggers that they are sure to come about from time to time. Often it is without warning, so you will have to be well informed and on point so that you can reel the patient back in before they start down that path of self-destruction.

If you don’t know your bipolar disorder triggers, you are asking for serious trouble. Without that knowledge, you will have no clue what to hang around, and what to steer clear of in your everyday living. In the end, you may find that you are unable to live a normal life in spite of the best treatments for the disease.

Bipolar disorder is not a disease that you want to live with, either as a patient or as a loved one of the person suffering from the syndrome. You will do well to be able to identify the signs and symptoms, which indicate that someone is suffering from bipolar disorder so that the appropriate help can be sought and gotten in good time.

Bipolar disorder is a mental illness in which your mood gets to interchange between extreme craze and gloominess, stating it mildly. Bipolar disorder is also called the manic-depressive illness or that fine madness, and for good cause too. Depending on the type of bipolar disorder that you suffer from, you may experience equal bouts of mania and depression over a ten-year period – about four times – or the entire cycle might burn itself out within a single year. Some forms of bipolar disorder can have you switching between frenzy and demoralization several times within a single week. This is often the severe type of

Women suffer the most from the type of depression known as bipolar depression disorder. This is not so strange or farfetched in any case, because even when women suffer from regular bipolar depression disorder, they often spend more time depressed than they do being manic.

Bipolar disorder is also known as manic depression because it is a mental condition in which you interchange often between phases of mania and depression. When you suffer from bipolar depression disorder on the other hand, you don’t spend as much time being manic as you spend being depressed.

Bipolar depression disorder, you must understand is easy to misdiagnose as bipolar disorder because of the similarity of their symptoms. As a result, the doctor may have to keep you around for lengthy periods when they are trying to diagnose you condition. It certainly will not be flattering to either of you if you got treated for the wrong thing.

Bipolar affective disorder is just another name for bipolar disorder or manic-depressive illness. However, you don’t want to mistake it for bipolar depression disorder. This is closely related, with all the symptoms of the depressive phase of bipolar disorder, but very few, if any at all, of the mania.

Bipolar disorder is unfortunately a mental disease that tends to begin in childhood and gradually gets worse as you grow older. The problem with this is that you may miss its diagnosis at that tender age because you cannot be too sure of exactly what it is. As such, it gets the chance to actually get much worse.

There are more children diagnosed with bipolar disorder these days than ever before. Perhaps it has something to do with changes in society, or it may be that the diagnostic processes are constantly getting better. Either way, it means that treatment methods for kids will have to be stepped up a lot.

There are all kinds of mental illnesses, and there are actually some of them that are manifestations of other mental illnesses. One of the most difficult to diagnose is bipolar disorder, because it often takes so long to complete its cycles. When this disease is suspected, the specialist usually takes a lot more time.

Diagnosing a disease like bipolar disorder can be a rather lengthy process most times. When you are in mania, the phase may last weeks or even months, and it could repeat itself for depression too. This makes it hard for the psychiatrist treating you to determine if it is one or the other that you suffer from… or both.

If they have it in adulthood, they must have had it since they were born. Bipolar disorder is a condition that sits in your genes by reason of inheritance from your parent or parents, and that often is set off by the experiences that you go through in life. You might have experienced some kind of trauma when growing up, either physical or psychological, or you may just have allowed yourself to think too deeply.

When bipolar disorder finally shows itself, it usually happens in teenage or adolescence – sometimes in your early twenties. Even then, if you are not careful you could miss its diagnosis entirely, mistaking it for a personality trait, or any of the other types of depression that there are. It could be years later before someone is sensitive enough to have you go in for a test or diagnosis.

In simple terms, you don’t want to be ignorant of the symptoms of bipolar disorder so that when you find that you are experiencing strange phenomena in your daily living, or if you suddenly ran into an adult around you who seems to be acting strange, you’d know what to think and what to do.

Bipolar disorder is also called the manic-depressive illness because it has two phases – one of mania and one of depression. It occurs about equally in both men and women although with a slight variation. Often when it is a male patient in question, their suffering begins with a touch of mania in which they act all obnoxious and overconfident and become very hard to be around because they are irritable. Women tend to start up with the depression – most likely because of their hormones. But after the start, they tend to alternate between both phases over a long time.

The depression in bipolar disorder is not necessarily the mild type, especially adults. It may appear like a clinical form of the disorder such as dysthymia or seasonal affective disorder; or it could appear more severely as a form of major depression. When you are depressed in bipolar disorder, you tend to experience painful sadness, negative thinking, and indifference to things that used to bring you happiness.

You feel woebegone but cannot bring yourself to d

Whatever else it is that you know of bipolar disorder, you may never forget that it is also a psychological condition, and so it has to be attended to psychologically too.

There are a lot of medications that can be used in the treatment of bipolar disorder, but there are no guarantees that they will cure the syndrome. A lot of bipolar patients have been through various treatments for the disease and have all come out with varying results. However, the results are not discouraging either.

Treating bipolar disorder requires first a proper diagnosis by a qualified professional such as a psychologist or a psychiatrist. Even if you have read all about the symptoms of bipolar disorder online and you have known how to treat it, you must remember that you are not a professional at this. Let the pros handle it.

So it could be you, or it could be a loved one, but once you have been properly diagnosed for bipolar disorder and categorized as to which type of the condition you are suffering from, you may now begin to undergo the treatment for it.

As long as you do not have kidney problems, your physician will likely prescribe you lithium because of its soothing properties on your moods. This will help you shorten, delay, or even prevent the extreme moods that may trigger your spells or episodes of bipolar disorder. Be sure you get a prescription for this though, because there are side effects that you need to be aware of.

There are other medications you may use for the treatment of bipolar disorder as well, especially for handling the manic phase of the condition. Carbamazepine is one very good example, and Valproate is another. They are sold in the United States under the trade names Tegretol and Depakene respectively. They dampen the mania so that you do not get off and harm yourself.

If your suffering from bipolar disorder is severe – either in mania or depression, you may have to be subjected to electro convulsive therapy. Often reserved for the most extreme of cases, ECT is not exactly a medication for bipolar disorder, as it is a treatment for people suffering extreme episodes or who are not responding positively to the medications and other treatments. ECT does help a great deal with reducing mood stability and cycling, which will help other medications to work more appropriately.

With all of these medications for treating the disease, you may also have to deal with some psychiatric therapy to help analyze your mind and set it back on the right track. Whatever else you think, this is critical to your chances of regaining the control of your mind that you have lost to bipolar disorder.

Preventing the manic and depressive periods of your bipolar disorder is how most medications for the condition work. If you take them well ahead of time, they can keep the phases off completely. The problem with most of them is merely that they tend to send you to the convenience every so often. But you can live with that.

When you have a lot of unresolved issues in your life, it could cause you to suffer from bipolar disorder. For a fact, this is not as common a cause of the syndrome as the genetic reason, but it is still real enough to warrant some serious attention. In psychological treatment, these are the things that they address.

When you are in the manic phase of bipolar disorder, you really don’t care about a lot of other things. You are just interested in nothing at all – life is so unreasonably great, and you are the king. When you are depressive, things are just the opposites. Why else do you think that the disease has been aptly nicknamed ‘the fine madness?’ Because that’s what it is, of course.

When you are being treated for bipolar disorder, the physicians in charge have to help you distinguish the beginning signs of a manic episode so that you can take in a hurry. Likewise, you have to be able to tell that a depression is coming on so that you can do the right thing by it. If you don’t, you never know, this may be the episode in which you kill yourself.

If you are ever going to survive the bipolar disorder you suffer from, you have to be able to identify its symptoms without outside or professional help. This is critical to your treatment or ever getting better. The time will come when no one can be with you, and at that time, your knowledge of the symptoms may be what saves you.

Men usually experience mania first when they suffer from bipolar disorder. Women on the other hand tend to sink into depression at the onset of the disease. You will do well to know which is which by identifying the symptoms of the disease early on. Once you have that in place, you may know well enough to get them the medical attention that they need.

When your bipolar disorder is just starting, the cyclic episodes of mania and depression may last for mere weeks. This is the best time to identify them and start to look for things you can do to address them. If you miss the symptoms at this time, you may grow well into adulthood, and close to destroying yourself before you discover it again.

In simple terms, you don’t want to be ignorant of the symptoms of bipolar disorder so that when you find that you are

Even mental health professionals, with their wealth of knowledge and experience on the disease may not easily recognize bipolar disorder. And when they have such suspicions on their minds, they have to take meticulous care to diagnose you properly before they jump to conclusions. That is because treatment of the condition is delicate.

You can live with bipolar disorder for ages and you will have no clue of it. This is however no testament to the impotency of the syndrome. As a matter of fact, you should be informed that this disease is as lethal as they come. More than merely having you hurt yourself for no reason at times; it could actually lead you to commit suicide!

You are not safe when you suffer from bipolar disorder and continue to live without treatment or medication for it. History shows that of the several people who tried to do that, close to fifty percent of them have tried to commit suicide once or twice during the course of events. About five percent of them succeeded too.

Bipolar disorder is not a disease that just jumps on you right out of the blues. Often, you may have had it for years before you even have a clue that something is wrong. That is why you should find it advisable to seek medical attention immediately you sense that something may be wrong with you. You really don’t want it to make a waste of your mind.

You could have been experiencing difficulty with bipolar disorder for long years before you know that you are. You could have been switching time and again between the phases on the condition in which you are excited and miserable without even a clue in your mind what is happening to you. The next time you hear of bipolar disorder, be afraid… be very afraid.

Under diagnosis of bipolar disorder is not an uncommon mistake, and neither is its misdiagnosis. Because the stage of the condition that you are in so hard to tell, even the pros make mistakes that they are not so proud to admit. That is why you should seek out the very best of them when you are seeking the medical help you so badly need for it.

You may suffer unnecessarily for years to your chagrin and to that of your loved ones, but that is merely a characteristic of bipolar disorder. It manifests so slowly, so gradually, that most people do not even know that it is that. That, of course, is the reason why it is so deadly, and that is why you must never underestimate the condition.

You aren’t the only one suffering from bipolar disorder when you are the patient, you know. Everyone around you suffers also. They feel your pain when you are depressed, and they cannot endure being around you when you are manic. The symptoms of the disease that you exhibit at these times do that to everyone.

You should be able to identify the rapid-fire speech pattern symptom of bipolar disorder that takes hold of the sufferer all of a sudden when they are about to go into their mania. You might have been having a conversation with them and they are talking cool, and suddenly they might seem to go off. Good time to call the doctor.

The contrast between the manic symptoms of bipolar disorder in a sufferer, and the depressive ones is what has allowed the condition to be tagged ‘the fine madness.’ Quite sincerely, when you have to live with the patient yourself, the far extremes of the symptoms could very nearly drive you mad yourself.

Certain symptoms of bipolar disorder in the manic state of the condition causes you to go off in so many directions when you are talking that people may find it hard to make sense of what you are trying to say. Yet, your inflated sense of self-esteem may cause you to not care too much either way. It is not an easy condition to live with.

The confidence of a bipolar disorder patient may cause them to have certain delusions of grandeur. Nostalgia, a far different symptom – say on an opposite pole – may set in very shortly after, and you may begin to wonder if you are speaking to the same person. This symptom is what has resulted sometimes in the disease being misdiagnosed as schizophrenia.

Mania in bipolar disorder may cause you to be irrationally, unjustly and unfairly impatient with someone that you care about. Sure you are suffering from a disease, but that is not immediately apparent to them, and that abrasiveness can drive them away from you. It is such symptoms that cause a lot of sufferers to go through life alone.

One symptom of bipolar disorder that often occurs on both poles of the condition is untold frustration. Of course it happens for different reasons in either phase, and of course it manifests in different ways too. When manic, you will tend to be physically abusive as a result, and when depressive you will instead kick yourself in the head.

You may find a sufferer of bipolar disorder often behave in socially inappropriate ways time and again. It is not strange to have them think irrationally either. It is at times like this that they often show impaired judgment about even the most basic things. Beware of symptoms like these, because they rarely end well.

It is common for your bipolar disorder to start when you are in your late teens or early 20s. If you are informed on the symptoms of the syndrome at that time, you can start to take measure to get treatment already. Simply put, ignorance of the symptoms of the condition can do you a lot of harm in more ways than one, so you don’t want that to happen to you.

Your bipolar disorder episodes will contain first symptoms of mania, and then symptoms of depression, each lasting anything from a few weeks to a few months. While you are in the middle of them, the chances are not good that you will take too much notice of the symptoms, but while you are in between, you may want to pay attention.

When you suffer from bipolar disorder and remain untreated, you may have as few as four episodes of mania or depression over any ten-year period, but they will likely be very severe. That is why you cannot neglect the symptoms as you gradually begin to recognize them. And they are there too, so you want to notice them and take the appropriate steps.

If you are having trouble identifying the symptoms of bipolar disorder, you may want to begin by taking a look first at mania, and then at major depression. Understanding these two, not as extremes of bipolar disorder, but as individual mental conditions, can help you come to terms with the symptoms of your own disease.

It is normal for you to function normally between your extreme episodes in bipolar disorder. That does not mean by any rate that you are safe from the worst of the condition. The symptoms of the next phase of it may come so suddenly you never get a chance to recover from them. That is why you cannot flirt with the disease in any way. Deal with it.

Be careful that you do not end up treating the symptoms of bipolar disorder rather than the disease. If there is anything that that can achieve, it is only to make the condition worse. As a matter of fact, it is to avoid things like that that a psychologist often takes a lot of meticulous care in diagnosing the condition.

The ‘rapid-cycling’ kind of bipolar disorder has all the symptoms of both extremes of the disorder virtually falling over them for your attention. This happens in better five and fifteen percent of all cases of the disease. Whereas under normal circumstances, you may suffer cycles four times in ten years, this time it all happens in a single year!
