Are you trying to make a diagnosis of bipolar disorder? If so, you need to know what bipolar disorder test you should be going for.

For a start, there are a few ways you can get a diagnosis. You can do it through a professional diagnosis or a self-questionnaire. Before you make your choice, do note that bipolar disorder can be difficult to diagnose.

In fact, it has been estimated at up to 70% of patients with bipolar disorder has gotten at least one inccurate psychiatric assessment. Sometimes the time between the appearance of the first symptoms and the time an accurate diagnosis is received can take more than ten years.

It is not easy to diagnose bipolar disorder as it is easily mistaken as depression. The mania and hypomania are often overlooked as just ordinary emotions. Other common misdiagnoses include schizoaffective disorder and schizophrenia.

That said, it also means that while you can use questionnaires and screening tools, you should not rely on it alone to make a diagnosis. These tools can be found easily online and they merely help to rule in or out whether someone has the likelihood of the illness.

At this time, you may be wondering if there is a lab test that can determine if one has bipolar disorder. Unfortunately the answer is no. While there has been active research on bipolar disorder, there is presently no lab test to do that. Of course, things may change as there are many exciting advances in the field of brain research.

There is definitely bipolar disorder test you can make use of but do note that getting an accurate diagnosis is important so do seek professional medical help if you are unsure.

Bipolar Manic Depressive Disorder Illness – Diagnoses And Treatment

Not every bipolar disorder patient shows the same patterns of behavior when they suffer from the condition. Not all of them suffer in the same way either. Some are seasonal and some are rapid cycling. You certainly cannot treat them all in the same way. The bipolar disorder treatment you must use must go along with the nature of your suffering, and nothing less.

Adults who have bipolar disorder are often the ones who commit or attempt suicides the most. I suppose the reason for that is that they have more to worry about, so that when they are in the depressed phase of the condition, they really cannot find any way out. Without treatment, a good number of them will never make it.

Bipolar disorder is like a lot of other similar conditions such as major depression and mania. As a matter of fact, it blends the two of them to an interesting degree. In finding a befitting treatment for your condition, some doctors may find that they need to combine some of the treatments they have for the others.

There are quite a few mental health professionals out there all over the United States who specialize specifically in bipolar disorder because it is a rather interesting condition, and one that posses its own challenges. You should have no trouble finding a professional to help your kid with the treatment they so badly need.

They may have to observe your behavior carefully before making a diagnosis for bipolar disorder. More than that that, they still have to watch you are closely as possible before deciding on the treatment for you. You need to grasp that bipolar disorder is not like some regular disease for which you take drugs. It’s a mental condition, and more care is needed.

For the treatment of bipolar disorder, you may be asked to stay in hospital for a while and mix with certain types of people. This is similar to the way they treat manic depression, but it isn’t quite the same. You do want to comply though, because more than just your health – your actual life is at stake here.

They need a complete history of your life when they are trying to diagnose you for bipolar disorder. Treatment can come appropriately for the condition in no other way. They need to know what your past was like so that they can perhaps identify the most likely triggers of your condition. Then they can better treat you.

Bipolar Manic Disorder – Looking At The Manic Signs Of Bipolar

November 1, 2009 by RemedyBipolarDisorder

I looked up mania in the dictionary and I didn’t like what I saw. You can look it up too when you have the chance – it’s right after madness and just before stupidity.

It is easy to read about bipolar disorder and learn how it is called the manic-depressive illness that levers you between phases of mania and depression at all kinds of indeterminate intervals. Sometimes you get the chance to function normally in between; sometimes you don’t. However, I don’t know if you have ever actually met someone in that condition before – someone who was actually being manic or depressive at a time when you were speaking with them. It is not a pleasant experience, I tell you. I’d like us to look at the mania for a moment.

Mania is obsession, and excessive and intense interest in someone or something, some kind of enthusiasm. But that is putting it mildly. Mania in the psychotic form is actually a psychiatric disorder characterized by excessive physical activity, rapidly changing ideas, and impulsive behavior. I’ll help you understand: when you are manic, you are excited and enthusiastic, but you are never able to touch down on any one interest for any reasonable length of time.

Let’s take a look at mania, shall we? Mania is an abnormal mental state that is characterized by an elevated irritable mood that is touched by self-importance, racing thoughts and hyperactivity. Did I mention a feeling of intoxication with you and with life? Or, are you manipulating people, spending money indiscriminately and pursuing sexual adventure to almost no end? And that is only the tip of the iceberg.

When you are manic, you are impatient and hostile towards others because they just can’t seem to ’see’ what you are talking about, and they never can. As a result, you could end up frustrated with them and start to hurt even those that you care about, physically hurting your children or spouse. When you are manic you have an inflated ego and sense of self-esteem that often comes with delusions of grandeur, and a self-confidence that causes you to believe you have more wit, courage, imagination, and artistry than everyone else.

I’m only just getting started here, but I’m pretty certain that you are getting the picture here. When you are manic, you aren’t yourself, and you aren’t a good person to be around. You are energized with racing thoughts that are never on the same topic for long enough, so that you sleep that much less. Alcohol and drug abuse is common, with other kinds of self-destructive behavior like obnoxious and combative behavior.

Hold! Here’s the worst part. You are like this only half of the time. The other half you are depressed enough to want to kill yourself. It does not take a whole lot of thinking to know why they call bipolar disorder the fine madness. It’s because you really are mad when you are suffering from such a disease; and like regular madness, you really don’t know that you are mad. That is what is so sad about the manic-depressive illness.
