Manic depression symptoms or bipolar disorder symptoms refers to signs where the sufferer exhibits disturbances of moods that switches between a manic phase and a depressive phase repetitively. Mood in this case refers to a sustained emotional state.

In the real world, manic depression comes in different forms. Different people having manic depression will exhibit different symptoms. A mood state is considered as a disorder when prevailing emotional states swing so wildly that they are out of proportion to the situation and as such the person is not able to function well in life.

While bipolar disorder is treatable, it has no cure yet. A person can recover by learning to manage their symptoms so that they can continue to lead productive lives. Here are some prodromes of bipolar disorder.

During the depressive phase, some of these symptoms include having very deep negative moods often with thoughts or attempts at suicide. It is also accompanied by eating disorders, lack of interest in activities enjoyed in the past, reduced interest in sex, decresed self-esteem and reduced sleeep.

During the manic phase, common warning signs include having high or euphoric feelings accompanied by many grand or over-ambitious ideas or plans, excessive amounts of energy, having unnaturally high self-esteem and self-belief and increased sex drive which may lead to promiscuity and aggressive sexual behaviour. Very often you can find these patients becoming extremely irritable and easily distracted.

The key to contolling the disease is to identify bipolar disorder symptoms. For most people, it would be easier to identify signs of mania than of depression. Depite that by catching these symptoms early can help reduce and even prevent this illness from getting out of hand.

Manic depression symptoms, now better known as bipolar disorder symptoms, refers to signs a person has because of this illness. Manic depression, also known as bipolar disorder is a psychological disorder that affects one’s mood.

Basically it results in mood swings but they are no ordinary ones that most of us would face as part of the ups and downs of everyday life. Such mood swings can cause one to experience different degrees of mood states ranging from extreme highs to extreme lows. They are not character flaws but are the result of biological changes in the brain.

Estimated to affect approximately 1% of the adult population, this disorder comes in second after depression as one of the most common disorders. Both men and women are equally susceptible to this illness. In serious cases, sufferers may even resort to committing suicide to reduce their sufferings.

At present, there is no cure for bipolar disorder. However, it is a medical condition that can be treated and managed with medication. As such, it is important for all to recognize manic depression symptoms. That will allow proper treatment to be given so that relapses are minimized. While it is often agreed that bipolar disorder causes the patients’ mood to alternate between mania and depression, it is important to recognize the signs for each.

For mania, the more common signs include reduced sleep, being more sociable, engaging in more activities and increased irritability. A milder form of mania known as hypomania can cause people to have new ideas, plans and interest, engage in more risky activities and having increased sex drive.

On the end of the spectrum, common symptoms of depression include losing interest and motivation in activities and people, having persistent worry or anxiety and having sleep disruption. Sometimes, sufferers may even have mixed symptoms as they went through experiences of mania and depression simultaneously.

The thing about manic depression symptoms is that once you are able to identify the warning signs early, you have a better chance of coming up with the appropriate strategies to reduce and even prevent a relapse.

In psychiatry or psychology, professionals refer to an affective disorder as a prolonged emotional disturbance. It is a psychiatric disorder that has a profound central emotional component especially characterized by depression. When you speak of bipolar affective disorder, you speak of such a condition, but one that switches you between the extremes of mania and depression.

When you have bipolar affective disorder, you will find yourself suffering from extreme mood swings, which range between acute euphoria mania and severe depression. In bipolar affective disorder, the depression you suffer from is as bad sometimes as major depression, which I must assure you is a very bad thing; and the mania can be mild or severe.

The manic phase of bipolar affective disorder can have you feeling unusually and unreasonably capable; like you own the world and that nothing can go wrong. It is worse because you tend to feel irritable when you want something and you cannot have it, and it may cause you to lash out at the people you love. Of course in this energized state, you are bound to have trouble sleeping and engage in rapid-fire speech that is heading you nowhere.

When you are suffering from the depression of bipolar affective disorder, you are entirely the opposite. Things could get as bad as hallucinations and delusions, but often it begins with the weakness and listlessness that often is quickly followed by a sense of helplessness that makes it hard for people to be able to enjoy your company. When you are depressive, the things that used to make you happy all of a sudden have little or no positive effect on you, and you are indifferent to them. Interestingly, you also lose appetite and sleep in this phase, and you may feel like committing suicide.

Well, I can say one thing about that; when you feel like committing suicide, don’t do it!

The treatment for bipolar affective disorder is one that you want to consider with utmost care. You can’t be too careful because treating one phase of the condition could trigger off the other chapter of it without warning. For instance, if you took medication for major depression, it may cure the depressive phase of your bipolar affective disorder, but it could also prompt a manic episode.

Perhaps the most reliable treatment for the ‘disease’ is lithium carbonate and a number of other lithium salts. Lithium carbonate is a natural mineral salt that has the ability to control both your mania and your depression. If you took the medication at a time when you were ‘normal’, you would be able to stave off the attacks of either phase. It has one catch, though; it weakens your kidneys somewhat. If you have kidney issues, you don’t want to use lithium carbonate.

Other ways you can attempt to treat your bipolar affective disorder include a healthier diet, some exercise, and serious stress management. If you can manage the stress in your life, you may be able to see that nothing sets you off either manically or depressively.

I’d hate to see a person that was wrongfully diagnosed for bipolar disorder, or someone with the affective condition that was wrongfully diagnosed with something else.

You may not fully grasp what my fear is like, but picture having acne and being treated for herpes. I don’t much think it is something you will feel like laughing about. There are many types of depression, and they all manifest themselves in different ways. Sure it is a state of unhappiness that is often accompanied by hopelessness, but it is also a whole lot worse.

Depression is also a psychiatric condition that gives off symptoms such as persistence of that hopelessness, accompanied by dejection, poor concentration, lack of energy, inability to sleep, and sometimes, suicidal tendencies. Now there are types of depression such as clinical depression, bipolar disorder, major depression, seasonal affective disorder, and dysthymia; and they very easily can be mistaken one for the other by an unseasoned psychiatrist if they aren’t careful enough.

Bipolar disorder is also called the manic-depressive illness because it can have you either manic or depressed at any specific time. The manic phase of bipolar disorder is characterized by psychotic symptoms such as intense elation and inappropriate happiness, excessive energy, and self-importance. You get racing thoughts and talk in rapid-fire verbal communications, and you get these horrible delusions of grandeur. These symptoms tend to make you irritable and impatient with other people.

When you are depressive in bipolar disorder, the symptoms are hardly any different from those of regular depression. You get the same painful sadness, the negative thinking, and the indifference to things that used to make you happy. And yes, you get the suicidal feelings too. Work, activities and people tend to turn you off; you lose sleep and appetite; you get worthlessness, helplessness and pessimism as added feelings; and then may come the delusions and false sensory perceptions that look like genuine psychosis.

You see, if you treated a bipolar disorder patient only for the manic symptoms, you could set of a very severe depressive episode; and if you treated only for the depression, you could trigger some major mania that may not be very easy to come out of. Worse than either of these situations, you could cause a rapid-cycling manic-depression that could permanently fracture the mind of the patient.

Yep, all of these forms of depression have a lot in common and they are closely related. They all leave you dejected and with suicidal tendencies, to mention but a few. You don’t want to be too rash with the diagnosis so that you don’t end up catching the wrong condition. You want to take your time observing so that if it is bipolar disorder, it can be properly diagnosed, and the patient who is suffering from it can be accorded the best bipolar disorder treatment you can get your hands on.

There are all kinds of things that cause people to suffer from depression in the world around you, and it is a fact the United States has more than its fair share of them. They cause all kinds of depression too. Sometimes they cause clinical depression, other times major depression, sometimes manic-depression, and then bipolar depression disorder.

In the attempt to diagnose bipolar depression disorder, the specialist has to go through a series of processes. Often they begin by examining the symptoms of depression that are present in you at the moment, and then they go on to take a look at your history to see if they have always been there. You, the patient, are going to have to cooperate.

If you have had bipolar depression disorder since you were a child, the symptoms will always have been there. However, it is entirely possible that you don’t even know it because your friends and family may put them down as some kinds of personality traits. As a result, it had the chance to develop into what it is now.

There is such a thing as a simple depression without it ever getting to be a severe form of the condition. All human beings at one time or the other tend to slip into depression from time to time over basic life’s challenges. However, the frequency of these occurrences and their intensity may be what depict it as bipolar depression disorder.

You will do well to not mistake bipolar depression disorder for bipolar disorder. They may be similar, but they are not diagnosed the same way or treated likewise. It is not like you will be able to tell them apart by yourself though; you are going to have to let the professionals do their thing. Your responsibility is to see that you give them an accurate history.

You don’t get proper treatment for bipolar depression disorder unless you have a psychiatrist who really knows what they are doing. The chances are that in your condition, you may not know well enough to seek the help you need, but a friend or family member can help, so try to see to it that they do.

Your shrink may have to establish the difference between the bipolar depression disorder that you suffer from, and actual bipolar disorder. The reason is so that you understand how your suffering differs from that of other patients, and why you need different medications. You wouldn’t want to end up worsening your condition inadvertently, would you?

Bipolar disorder is perhaps hardest to diagnose and to treat in children. This is largely why it was believed that the syndrome often begins in your late teens and can last the whole of your life if left untreated. However, increased diagnoses due to better diagnostic means and processes in recent times have made it possible to identify bipolar disorder even in children under the age of fifteen. What was mistaken to be personality traits at one time is now understood to be bipolar disorder, and early treatments are now sought for such children.

A child who suffers from bipolar disorder will appear selfish all of the time, whether they are manic or depressive. That is perhaps one of the first symptoms of bipolar disorder you should look for in your own child
